A couple of hours ago, Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge announced in a press statement the name of the ‘Royal Baby Boy’ – George Alexander Louis. No royal pomp was done during the announcement, and it came earlier than most (except Harry’s, whose name was announced on the day itself) of the royal babies. The Royal Baby has only three names, unlike the traditional four names for royal heirs. Prince William has four – William Arthur Philip Louis, and so is Prince Charles – Charles Philip Arthur George.
George pays homage to Prince William’s great great grandfather King George VI, the Queen’s father. Louis is one of William’s middle names and most likely a tribute to Lord Louis Mounbatten, the Duke of Edinburgh’s uncle and the last British Viceroy of India before independence in 1947.
The Royal Baby’s official title is His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge, although I won’t be surprised if they call him Baby George or simply Boy George…
